Scale model of a real Dutch bicycle. This bike is very detailed and even the pedals really get the rear wheel moving. The bicycle is packed in a beautiful vintage packaging that shows all typical Dutch aspects of the bicycle. From the promotional material at the time, to the canal houses of the streets then and now.
The originally French invention from 1817 was a balance bike by Karl Drais, around 1870 pedals and rubber tires were introduced and cycling became all the rage. Because the unicycles got bigger and bigger wheels to increase the speed and thus became more and more dangerous, Jhon Tarley devised the transmission to a second wheel. Today, this model is still the model for the current two-wheeler. Due to the flat landscape, the bicycle has become the most used means of transport in the Netherlands.
